Progress Report 2012 Term 2

Clarence happily showed me his Progress Report for term 2 on his last day of school. He was happy because of the good comments. I am glad I see better comments this term as compared to last term. Keep it up, son!

MIB 3

We went to Bugis Junction for dinner last Wednesday and saw these aliens standees for MIB3.

Watched MIB3 movie last Thursday night since Clarence need not go to school on Friday (Upper Primary Sports Day). A bit disappointing cos there were not many aliens in the show. We expected more aliens. Nevertheless, Clarence enjoyed the show. I still think The Avengers is more entertaining.

Camping

Have been wanting to set up a tent in our balcony for the kids to play camping for quite some time. Finally did it few weeks ago during Friday night when the kids need not go to school on Saturday. Setting up the tent:

Clarence slept on his sleeping bag while Vincy slept on her childcare mattress.

They slept soundly for the first night despite the thunderstorm in the middle of the night. When they woke up in the morning, they took toys and played in the tent. They even took their afternoon nap in the tent.

On the second night, we went to Carrefour at 9 plus in the night to buy these inflatable mattresses for them so that they can sleep more comfortably.

In the end, the tent was left in the balcony for 2 whole weeks and they camped during the weekends over the 2 weeks period. They love camping!

Clarence told me he want to experience camping outdoor in the open next time.

Change childcare

We changed Vincy's childcare to somewhere nearer our place on 2 May. So far, she seems ok with the new school. In fact, she has been looking forward to the change. She is very excited about her new school.

New uniform: Daddy hates her new pinafore cos it is harder to iron as compared to her old uniform, too many pleats on the skirt.

An interesting activity they did in the first week: car wash. Yes, a real car for them to wash. Vincy liked it a lot. A brand new experience for her.

Ode to Joy

After a month of lesson, Clarence mastered this song: Ode to Joy. To be accurate, actually after 2 lessons.
First lesson: learnt how to hold guitar and play 2 notes
Second lesson: learnt to play the song Ode to Joy which consists of 5 notes C,D,E,F,G
Third lesson: We asked the teacher to restring the guitar to a left-hander guitar cos Clarence is a left-hander and we bought a right-hander guitar. So he has to unlearn what he has learnt and relearn the notes using his right hand instead. After a week of trying, he told me he found it uncomfortable. He preferred the right-hander guitar.
Fourth lesson: Asked the teacher to restring the guitar back to a right-hander guitar.



We have decided not to let Clarence take any guitar exam. He is not keen to take too. Just let him learn for interest.

Vincy loves going to art class. She looks forward to Mondays cos her art class falls on Mondays. Definitely one of her favourite classes. Her second piece of art work:

Wedding dinner

We went to my cousin's wedding dinner on 21/4. Time really flies, I watched this cousin of mine since baby till now and he getting married already. All our best wishes to the newly wed couple.

This is the first time we bring both our kids to a wedding dinner. They managed to sit through the dinner with a little help from the ipad.

Physical (Gross/Fine):

Vincy has good body coordination and can dance rhythmically to music. She is able to use play equipment with ease. She can climp up and down the stairs using one foot on each step.

Art and Craft is one of the activities Vincy enjoys. She is able to cut paper using scissors independently. She is able to trace and follow lines to write letters.

Intellectual/Cognitive

Vincy is consistently enthusiastic in her work. By the level of accuracy in her work. she has shown her understanding skills and ablility to follow instructions. Vincy is also able to identify phonemes from "a" to "f" and recognise their sounds as well as their numbers within 5. She is also able to stay on task to complete her work.

Social/Emotional/Moral

Vincy is a very vocal girl. She is always proud to share her personal experiences with her peers and teachers. Her good command of speech allows her to interact well with her peers and to communicate her knowledge to them.

颖希在华文表达方面有进步，能认读一些简单的字, 朗读歌谣时懂得用手指着所读的字。书写笔画很工整。喜欢听故事，并懂得其中意思自己朗读出来，喜欢和小朋友唱歌跳舞。

Overall Comments:
Vincy is a cheerful girl by nature.She is good in Music and Movement. She is an intelligent and active girl. Vincy is abe to recognise simple words and she gets along well with her classmates.

Conquering her fear

Vincy finally conquered her fear and dare to use the kick board in the deep pool without our help some time in April.

SYF Prize presentation in school

Clarence is very excited today. He woke up before 6am by himself as he didn't want to be late for school today cos they are presenting tropies to the prize winners in SYF.

One thing good about the school for parent is the school is really very "open". We and a few other parents stayed at the parade square waiting to see the kids receive the trophy and nobody stopped us.

This is his first trophy. He has always wanted a trophy cos he already has a few medals. When I volunteered to bring the trophy home for him, he refused. He wants to hold the trophy and bring it back to class.

He will be going for lunch and bowling treat sponsered by the school this afternoon as a reward for their effort in the SYF competition.

Sentosa Boardwalk

Took a walk at Sentosa boardwalk the other day after our dinner at Vivo. There are some travelators along the boardwalk to ease your tired legs when you don't feel like walking anymore.

The weather that night was too humid. We were so glad to see an ice-cream and juice shop nearing Sentosa. To our dismay, the aircon in the shop was not working that night. It was hotter in the shop than outside and they ran out of juice. We bought chocolate ice-cream for the kids.

Ice skating @ JCube

We went to JCube to check out the newly opened Olympic-sized ice skating rink on 15 April. A lot of people were already queuing up to buy tickets for the first session when we reached there.

They have skates for Vincy too. So the whole family got to skate together for the first time.

I would say the person who enjoyed most had to be Vincy.
Daddy was holding on to her, pulling her around in the rink. Uncle Leon also helped to hold Vincy's hand. Poor daddy got a backache after bending down for so long supporting her.

No wonder she loves to ice skate!
